Cottonwood Pass

Located in the Eastern Sierra mountains, Cottonwood Pass Trail is a relatively easy hike out of the horseshoe meadows trailhead located high above and just a bit south of the town of Lone Pine.

Notable features of the hike include:

  • Plentiful seasonal wildflowers
  • Access to the Pacific Crest Trail
  • Southern starting point for accessing Mt. Whitney
  • Access to Golden Trout Wilderness
  • high elevation campground to acclimate for Mt. Whitney
  • Potential to see back country rancher
  • Historic logging remnants
  • Sweeping Views of Panamint and Death Valley mountain ranges

Elevation gain from trailhead to pass: ~1200

Difficulty: Easy/ Moderate
